Ruling:
In Favor of Plaintiff.
Case Summary:
RJW is running his players through the Curse of Strahd and his players encountered a tiger freed from a traveling circus. One of the players rolled well on an Animal Handling check (~18) to calm the tiger down. However, the player now wants to keep the tiger as a mount. The owner of the tiger came to reclaim their missing tiger, but the player insisted that their animal handling check would have persuaded the tiger to remain with them. The DM disagrees.
Verdict:
Justice Tanner invokes the Airbud Precedent and states that the owner and the PC should make contested Animal Handling checks to decide. Justice Murph agrees and grants the owner advantage on those rolls. Justices Axford and Hurwitz believe that the initial check is not enough to justify retaining the tiger without additional checks. Justice Murph concurs and refers to the DM rules for setting the DC on an "impossible" task at DC30.
